Frequently Asked Questions
- Is my home properly covered?
When considering this, it is important to make sure that your home is covered to its full replacement value. You must also remember that your personal belongings are also covered under your home insurance.
- Are payment plans available?
Most companies do offer the opportunity to pay on a month-to-month basis for your insurance. You may also be offered a quarterly payment plan and a yearly payment plan.
- Will my insurance increase after an accident?
Keeping a clean track record is always the best way to handle things. In the unfortunate event of an accident it is important that you phone your broker, not only to report the accident, but also to find out exactly what type of discounts you may also have in place to eliminate an increase of premium.
- Is my child's property covered while away attending college?
With most companies, a student who is attending a college or university and still remains dependent on the named insured for support is also insured as their contents are temporarily removed from the home.
- Now that my child is 25, shouldn't we qualify for a decrease in premium?
In the past, insurance companies would provide a decrease in premium when an individual reached the age of 25. Today, they actually base the premium not on the age of the individual, but on both the years licensed and insured.
- Can I insure specific items separately?
Your home insurance will provide coverage on items such as jewellery, furs, and certain collectibles, but will be held to a certain limit of coverage. In the event where you feel that this coverage is inadequate, you are able to insure specific items such as those listed above and more.
